1 Step One: The Target
Choosing the Target - Choose someone who has a good sense of humour or someone you know will appreciate the prank in the end. Also, target someone you see often. It will give you more chances to pull off the prank.
Study their habits - The more you know about your target the better and the more creative your prank will be. Take note of your target's habits. What time do they leave the house? Do they wash their face and then brush their teeth or vice versa? Who do they talk to everyday?
Fears and Fun - Take note of what they are afraid of or paranoid about. Use these points to make the prank better!
Belief and Trust - Make a list of people they trust and things they believe and don't believe to be true. This will help you brainstorm ideas for pranks that could work. For example, if your Mom believes your kitchen is haunted, she might think a mysterious knocking noise in her cupboard is a ghost. Use the people she trusts to make the prank even more believable. For example, if your Dad says that he's heard the noise in the kitchen and thinks it's a ghost, she may believe it too.
2 Step Two: Planning/Designing your Prank
Keep it Simple - The more complicated your prank is, the more likely something won't go as planned. As you get better at pranking, you can make your pranks more elaborate.
Materials - Think of pranks you can build with the things around you. It's amazing what you can do with household items!
The Lure - Come up with a good story to lure your target into the trap. Use the info you gathered about their habits to make sure they'll be in the right spot to get pranked. You can also offer to give them free stuff to make sure they are where you want them - when you want them there. For example, if your sister loves cookies and you tell her you are making a batch that will be ready at 6pm, she will most likely be in the kitchen for 6PM.
* Have the prank go off in stages - start small and build up from there.
* Something unexpected popping out of somewhere unexpected always gets a reaction.
* Throw your target off track - think of questions they may ask and prepare your answers in advance.
* Prank a group of people - you'll have more chances to get somebody with a good reaction.
Safety! - Most importantly, MAKE SURE THE PRANK IS SAFE!!! No one will appreciate the prank if someone gets injured. Make sure the target doesn't have any life-threatening allergies or special medical conditions that your prank might trigger.
Have Fun! - Choose a prank where the target can laugh with you. Pranks should be fun for everyone involved. The best pranks are ones that are meaningful.
3 STEP 3: Pulling the Prank
Act Natural - Do exactly as you would on any normal day, in the order you normally do it. Anything out of the ordinary might will tip off your target.
Keep a straight face - Never smile or giggle during the prank.
Top Secret - Tell nobody what you are planning. If you need somebody else to help you with the prank, choose that person carefully (can they keep a secret?!) and make sure they swear not to tell as well!
After the Prank - Let the target know all the work you put into it so that they can appreciate the prank and so you can laugh about it together. Find out what they liked, disliked and what they believed or thought was going on. This way you can learn from you prank so that you can make the next one even more awesome!
